It is with sadness we were advised by many residents that the gateposts to the old Charmandean House have been demolished; as you can imagine this has caused a lot of upset and Charmandean Lane will never be the same again.

The Gateposts were one of the only remaining standing parts of the Charmandean House Estate. There were in fact the 2 main gateposts, and a smaller, carved stone post which formed part of the iron railings surrounding the East Entrance has also been demolished.

The Worthing Journal's article on this (July 2013) stated:

'Historians looked on in horror as ornately carved stone gateway pillars - the last remnant of Charmandean House / School - were demolished. The pillars were situated along Charmandean Lane, a rough track leading from the A27 Upper Brighton Road.
They were the final surviving features of a once grand mansion.'
